With ‘Lockdown’ taking away my few regular forms of exercise (weekly badminton and occasional swimming) and lacking the will power to switch to riding a bike in all weathers, the kilos started to pile on. Recognizing that I lacked sufficient self-motivation, I decided I needed to schedule fitness appointments twice a week to push myself into a new fitness regime.
Kev’s personal training sessions have proven perfect for me – he pushes you hard, but not to the point where you dread coming back (which is why I had avoided ‘boot camp’ training offered by others in the past). The sessions are varied, enjoyable, and tailored to fit my specific fitness goals.
I was fully aware that as someone in my mid-fifties and at my previous weight, I needed to be cautious when starting a more intense form of exercise than my body had experienced in several decades. The close monitoring by Kev throughout every part of the training session was incredibly reassuring – he can always tell when I begin to struggle aerobically. At that point, he introduces a resistance-based exercise with kettle weights that allows me to recover before gradually increasing the intensity again. Similarly, when boxing against hand pads, I’ve noticed Kev subtly tailoring the intensity of the session to how my body is reacting by adjusting the height of the hand pads and the number of repetitions.
I have been training with Kev twice a week for 4 months, focusing on a tailored fitness programme, and I have lost weight, my body shape is changing, my posture is improving, and I now have much more energy. Kev’s monthly fitness test monitoring provides a quantifiable measure of the improvement in my fitness (which has been dramatic and a source of great motivation): From initially struggling to run half a mile, we now begin each training session with a 1-mile warm-up run.
Unlike my previous gym membership (which was rarely used and enjoyed even less), I look forward to every training session with Kev and firmly believe this is the best investment in my health I have ever made.
